Which VOID Setup Do You Need?
VOID comes in three setups. They all do the same thing once the lid is on the jar, and what changes between them is how much hardware arrives in the box. That is the whole reason one is $199 and another is $399. This page walks through which one is yours, and it takes about a minute if you know what blender is on your counter.
What the lid actually does
A normal blender does not only mix your ingredients with each other. It mixes them with the room. The blades pull a vortex down the middle of the jar and fold air in continuously, and that air is doing three things you can see in the glass.
- It makes foam. Foam is not a texture your ingredients brought with them. It is air the blades whipped in, which is why you get a full glass of drink and a head of bubbles on top of it.
- It browns things. Cut produce browns when an enzyme meets oxygen. A blender releases that enzyme through the whole batch at once and then folds in the oxygen to go with it.
- It pulls the drink apart. Bubbles rise, and they carry pulp up with them. That is the foam-on-top and water-at-the-bottom look by lunchtime.
The VOID lid pumps most of the air out of the jar before the blades ever turn, and the seal holds on its own while the motor runs. Take the air out and you have removed what all three of those depend on.
Consumer Reports put vacuum blending to an independent test and found that in vacuum mode, blenders "made smoothies that were smoother, less foamy, and more consistent in texture than the smoothies we made in regular mode." They did not test our lid, and they were equally clear that they "did not test the nutritional claims." Neither do we, which is why you will not find a vitamin retention percentage anywhere on this site.
Start with what is on your counter
This is the only question that decides which setup you need.
- A Blendtec. If you have a WildSide+, WildSide or Fourside jar, or a Professional 800, you need the lid on its own. It goes straight onto the jar you already have.
- A classic Vitamix. The ones with a black rubber pad with grooves on the base. That covers the 5000, Super 5000, 5200, 5300, 6300, 6500, 7500, 780, Pro 300, Pro 750, CIA, TurboBlend, and the Explorian E310, E320 and E520. You need the Retrofit Kit, which brings a jar that fits your base.
- A Vitamix Ascent or Venturist. These are the smooth Self-Detect bases with no rubber pad, and the Retrofit Kit does not fit them. You want the Complete System, which brings its own base and jar.
- A Ninja, a KitchenAid, or anything else. The lid does not fit those jars. The Complete System is the answer, for the same reason.
- Nothing yet. The Complete System is the one to buy. It is the only setup with a motor base in the box.
If your model is not named above, email CS@voidvac.com before you order and we will tell you which one you need. And if you order and it turns out not to fit your machine, the return is free.
What is in each box
The lid, $199. The VOID lid, a silicone sealing gasket, a magnetic wireless charger, a magnetic USB-A cable, a USB-A to USB-C adapter, and the manual. No jar, because you already have one.
The Vitamix Retrofit Kit, $299.99. Everything above, plus a VOID jar that fits a classic Vitamix base, a Vitamix adapter gasket, a tamper, and a basic hard lid with its own gasket and removable vent. On some bases the gasket needs light trimming, which does not void the warranty, and if you damage it while trimming we will send a replacement.
The Complete System, $399. Everything in the lid box, plus a blender base with a US power cord, a VOID jar, a tamper, a basic hard lid with gasket and vent, and a removable baseplate gasket. This is the one that works in a kitchen with no compatible blender in it.
Every VOID jar is BPA-free Eastman Tritan. The jar kit is also sold on its own for $99.95 if you would rather add it later.
Using it, and looking after it
Load the jar, seat the lid, pick a preset and press Go. When the pump has finished, switch the lid off and blend. When you are done, pull the red tab to vent the jar before you open it. The whole sequence adds about thirty seconds.
The lid runs on its own battery and charges on a magnetic wireless charger, and a charge lasts most people about a month of daily use. Wash the jar by hand. Wipe the lid down, never submerge it, and keep the pump dry. Do not put the lid in the fridge or the freezer, and do not put boiling or near boiling liquid in the jar.
What it does not do
It is worth being straight about the limits, because this category oversells itself.
It is not preservation and it does not replace refrigeration. Once the drink is poured into an open glass it meets room air like anything else. What changes is how much oxidation happened during the blend, which is why the difference shows up over the hours after you pour rather than over days.
It does not make a blender blend better. The motor and the blade decide that, and the lid does not touch either.
And we do not publish a vacuum figure for the lid. There is no standard test behind the numbers you see quoted in this category, they are not measured the same way from one product to the next, and a bigger number on a page tells you nothing about what happens in your jar. We would rather show you the twenty minute test than a specification.
The terms
Thirty days from purchase to return or exchange on U.S. orders. Three years on vacuum lids, five on blender bases, one on jars. You cover return shipping, except when it does not fit your machine, in which case the return is free.
You can check your model against the fit list before you order anything, and the chemistry behind all of this is written up separately if you want it.
